Every team has six lanes: centre, both wings, left- and right-shot defence, and goal. When the jobs in a lane belong to veterans signed for years, the young players behind them become trade candidates, whether or not the team has admitted it yet. This page finds them from facts you can check: who holds the jobs, how long they are signed, and the evidence the young player is ready.

Aged 20–24 (goalies to 25), not yet an NHL regular, with evidence he is ready (NHL results, AHL or top European pro production, or a top-100 prospect ranking once playing pro), in a lane where most established jobs are signed through 2028–29. The pool covers every club's NHL prospect list plus its 2021–2026 draft picks, wherever they now play. Open a row for who is ahead of him and where the same lane is opening.

The pattern: the Kings' right side
Los Angeles kept developing right-shot defencemen behind a veteran group and kept losing them before they could take over: Brock Faber went to Minnesota as a college prospect in the June 2022 Kevin Fiala trade and became a top-pair defenceman; Sean Durzi was traded to Arizona in June 2023 for a second-round pick; Matt Roy left as a free agent for Washington in July 2024; and Jordan Spence was traded to Ottawa at the 2025 draft for two picks. A lane stacked with ready players and locked jobs is the signal. The lanes below are where it is happening now.
